The 2011 World Fishing Games will be held in Italy. The decision has been taken in Dresden during the XXX Congress of the CIPS (Confédération Internationale de la Peche Sportive). The best angling teams will compete for more than 30 world titles among freshwater and sea competitions. " It has been a great satisfaction and once again a demonstration of great respect from the international angling movement towards us and our activity" - said Mr. Ugo Claudio Matteoli, Chairman of the Italian Sport Fishing Federation and of the International Freshwater Federation - " in the decision process the CIPS has taken account of the Italian long tradition and the organization ability developed during the years and also exported abroad. Moreover - added Mr. Matteoli - the quality of infrastructures, venues and logistics offered by our country have carried a great weight. FIPSAS is committed to organizing a sport event at the utmost competitive level and that will boost at the same time local tourism in the venues chosen for the competitions (sea, lakes and rivers). This event shall be able to involve all mass medias and all the Italian fans of Sport Fishing".
The World Fishing Games, now at their third edition, have the singularity to gather all angling disciplines in one single event, which takes place on different venues for a period that lasts one week. The first edition in 2000 was organized in Italy and resulted in an unpredicted success; the second edition was hosted by Portugal in 2006: 74 the number of national federations representing 54 different countries and more than 3000 the total number of participating people, considering athletes, managers and accompanying people.
The date has been fixed for the last week of August 2011: 70 nations are expected to come from all over the world and our wish is to see even more flags flying during the opening ceremony and a turnout of more than 2000 athletes fighting for the highest place on the podium.
